Greed: What motivates you?

Who doesn’t want to make as much money as they can, drive the nicest cars, live in the biggest homes, or take luxury vacations? I believe that most people would take all of it, me included. Is that greedy? Sure it is.

Every person has something that motivates them, something that drives them to succeed. Without it, people would become complacent and the economy, and people in general, would become stagnant. Wanting more, whether that be a better car or just a nicer job constitutes greed, but greed is not ALWAYS a bad concept. Continue reading

Get me in shape!

Part of my reasoning for starting this blog was so I would have people (you) to hold me accountable. Well, I want that accountability to begin now!!

I am the best man in my friend’s wedding on June 7th. Sometime before May 24th, I have to be fitted for my tux. Problem is, I do not want to wear a tux weighing 210 pounds. Continue reading

Gaining your child’s trust

My daughter, Peyton, is now 3 1/2 weeks old. She is your typical infant: doesn’t sleep in her crib, eats all the time, and cries when you don’t hold her. Her mother and I have been lacking much sleep, but we have enjoyed every last moment of the past 3 1/2 weeks.

I believe from the time she was born, I was beginning to build her trust. She may not be able to remember anything from her first year or two as she gets older, but if I do not build her trust now, I do not feel I will have it in the future.
I believe that she already trusts us. Whenever she is lying in her crib, she begins to cry, but as soon as she sees us reaching for her, she stops crying. She knows that we sense what she wants, and will give it to her, no matter what time in the morning it is. Continue reading

Happy Easter!

I just wanted to wish everybody a Happy Easter! No matter if you are Christian or not, today is an excellent day to reflect upon everything that you are thankful for. I personally have had time to reflect on my life, and I have had many blessings. Through my baseball, I have met many great people, traveled to many great places, and found the love of my life. I have a great, supporting family that is always there for me. And most of all, I am healthy and able to spend everyday with the people that are most important to me.

So, on this Easter day, I hope everybody has time to tell people in their lives what they mean to them and truly be thankful for everything they have been given!

Why blog?

There are many factors that led me to start blogging. People blog for all kinds of different reasons: for fun, to relax, to vent, or because others now expect them to. Since I began my self-development adventure, I have read many people’s blogs and have learned much from a few of them. Below are the top reasons I decided to start a blog.

1. To stay motivated: In order to maintain a blog, I have to constantly be thinking about things to write about. The content of which I plan to write will help me reach my goals by focusing on practicing what I am trying to preach. The longer I write, the longer I will keep on the path to becoming a better person. Continue reading

A Man’s Place

Since beginning my blog, I have been doing a lot of thinking as to how I can make it better for everybody. One of the first things that came to mind as a possibility of being a negative about my site is my title. I don’t want women to look at my title and think, “Oh what a pig.” “A Man’s Place” is not a place for just men to read and discuss what is going on in their lives, and it is definitely not a site just for talk about sports. I want everybody to feel free to join in on the discussion because women’s input is just as important as the mens. A lot of times they see things men do and know how to do them better.

A simple explanation of the title of my blog is that a lot of times men do not have a place to go to discuss how to make themselves better. I just wanted men to know that there are other men out there who care about their health, their parenting ability, and about other things in life, and give them somewhere where they can improve themselves.

So, in short, I would love for women to join in on the discussion and read the tips and do everything that the site allows you to do. Your input is important to ALL of the readers. Nothing on the site is “just for men.”

A New Beginning

Every person, at some point in their life, has a “life-altering” experience.  This experience came for me on February 28th of this year when my daughter was born.  As I held her for the first time, a million things rush through my head: am I going to be a good father, how am I going to support her, what do I need to do to be the best father/person possible?

I decided to set out on a self-improvement adventure.  I did this for both myself and my family.  After reading many blogs, books, and as much material I could find on the internet, I decided to start my own website in order to help both myself and all the other men out there who are going to be in my position soon, are currently in my position, or have been in my position in the past.  I feel that the best possible way to learn is by trying to start discussions and putting my views/opinions out there so they can be viewed and critiqued by others.  With your help, I feel we all can improve and make not only our lives better, but the lives of people around us better.

So here it is, “A Man’s Place.”  Please feel free to post discussion topics in the forum at www.freewebs.com/mansplace about whatever comes to your mind.  The more input from you, the better this place will be.
